The cooling fading sunset
as a night by the ocean, the
boardwalk
the smells pungent, sweet
Ribbons of pink, pulling, wisps,
swirls, pulled threads of confection
a darkening color
like watermelon taffy
changing to rose, to plum,
fading to dust on the wind
cooling into darkness,
while we sit on the lawn,
listening to the band,
waiting for the fireworks
