whisper of the serpent, call of the cross

the fact of the cross
the way of the world
our submission
to the whisper of the serpent
the cries of the flesh
the nails, the crown
the thorns of anger
shouts of “Blasphemy,
Crucify, Crucify!
in the city of David
the fact of the cross
the blood of sacrifice
the fact of the cross
that Christ died for me
my God giving himself
that I would be free

the other side of the mirror
the way of Christ
the call of the cross
the way of servanthood
God’s call to us
to submit, to be loving
to give as Christ gave
to give all to God
the call of the cross
stronger than the serpent
calling us to love
to serve our fellow man
God’s call to us
to be like the shepherd
to give of ourselves completely
to give all to God
