Almost silent over the sand – v8

Ancient waters, almost silent over the sand,
as each wave breaks, flowing, repeating,
falling forward, thrusting, melting, receding,
just a murmur over the grains, liquid silica,
already wet from each passing…
 
Cacophony, the cadence, the rhythm,
successive waves building, crashing,
diluting the power, the majesty,
of each wave at its gifting…
 
A sound of sizzle, of percolating, of boiling,
of water falling, rain erupting, a hush,
silence in their dissolving, catharsis, a pause,
a blanket opening, unfurling, pulling,
as the wave melts, merges, slides
over water atop the wet sand…
 
Focusing my attention on one wave
each one in succession, urgent,
concentrating my hearing
to their mystery within…
 
Only a kiss, a hiss, of friction, pausing,
giving way to the majesty of this moment,
releasing the water, letting go of control,
offering each wave to the shoreline,
drawing, pulling the wave back again…
 
Listening more deeply, urgently,
for the story in their releasing
a gift of the ocean to the shoreline
a prayer within each one…
