Behind the broken barbed wire

Behind the broken barbed wire

The stone wall falling, neglected,
A tree at the back of the property rising,
A maple growing taller, higher,
Framed before the sky…
 
The expanse of the yard before us,
A fort in the tree above, climbing,
A loose board spelling disaster,
A scar to remind me of gravity,
The sting of the barbed wire…
