a
burden upon us, layer upon layer
like
lacquer, a hard surface,
rock-hard,
impenetrable
shame
coats our hearts
not
letting anything in
lost
in our struggle
a
weight, chains
carried,
a burden
a
stain remembered
our
sin, our humanness
no
matter the washing
our
stain not coming out
