Before the cross, the Passion,
Before He washed His disciples' feet
even the feet of Judas, of Peter,
the one who betrayed Him,
the one who denied Him
all those who ran away...
 
Even before the manger,
His birth in a lowly stable
Christ became mortal
leaving eternity
a kernel of heaven
in Mary’s womb...
 
Fully God but fully Man,
folded into the smallest seed of humanity,
listening to the heartbeat of Mary,
Jesus, our Lord and Savior
As we were in the secret place
formed in our mother's womb...
 
A kernel of heaven
inside the bounds of time
living as we do, mortal,
nine months of quiet, of waiting,
Every child before they are born,
like our risen Lord and Savior...
