Running to court, a quick
filing
before racing to the office,
a swallow of coffee,
gathering papers
another case, urgent,
important
another hearing, another
court
the whirlwind, so familiar
Between these, the motion of
the day,
Stopping, pausing, watching
Standing still, reverent
waiting in these moments
the raising of the colors
before the courthouse
A moment of reflection
of America, of sacrifice
what the flag really means
caught in the bright morning
sun
Time standing still;
Grateful for where I stand

In the park across from the court is a sign with the name
Rene Gagnon, the Hooksett resident
who helped raise the flag at Iwo Jima
