we see the smithy preparing the fire
gathering the wood, the fuel,
stoking the fire burning
red-hot, alive, aglow
His tools grasping the metal
turning it to His purpose
the smithy at the anvil
banging out the imperfections
not a work of art, perhaps,
forming a tool for a purpose
crafted with His skilled hands
for important work
from the outside, looking in,
this is how it seems
but maybe this description
of the smithy at work
fails to see the artistry
His relationship to His work
not forcing the metal
bending it to His will
seeking to woo the metal
into the shape it always was
discovering in the smithy
the loving hand of God
