Thank you for your service – 2 #Thankyouforyourservice #VeteransDay

Noting the license plate in the parking lot,
striking up a reverent conversation,
talking to the customer before me,
asking about her, her husband’s story.
 
She is the widow of a Pearl Harbor Survivor,
one who knew that horror, that loss,
seeing the flames that fateful day,
history changing course.
 
We talked about his passing,
about the life they made together
how he struggled at first with the memories
what he went through in the moment.
 
They lived a long life together
many anniversaries, children,
happy days, the American Dream,
before his recent passing
 
I said a heartfelt farewell,
“Thank you for your service”,
for what he sacrificed,
what they endured,
for God and our country.
