We are not at an inflection point, but several at once,
Different strands within the same cord…
The rise of authoritarians, their minions,
Jack-booted thugs, armed little Satans -
Just as we were warned by history -
There is a rise in violence against innocents,
Riots are rising, marching, children taken...
All these threads are interwoven,
Shoots, branches grafted in the same vine -
Tares growing within fields of wheat -
We do not know the fruit they will bear…
 
We see civil war, resistance against repression,
Brothers warring against brothers...
Cell-phone cameras of an army…
Believe your eyes, not propaganda,
Lies of those in power, shouting,
Demanding submission, uneven...
Every meeting, every statement
None of them alone unravels the system, but
Together they weave pressure across borders,
Over time, across pivotal junctures...
 
Sometimes we ponder, seeing the threads,
Seeing more clearly than the actors…
Someone pulling on just one strand,
Thinking only of the immediate, this moment,
This action, not on the ripple effects,
A butterfly effect of consequences…
Upheaval, vulnerable weapons at the ready,
Asymmetrical warfare against great powers
Based on the show of force, their tactics,
Forgetting the world has already changed…
 
Change is upon us, titans fighting -
An Age of Empires or Freedom -
Only time will tell, in its own time,
Catharsis is never tidy; it is cumulative, building,
relentless, and ever-patient. People who endure,
who persist in speaking truth, are the ones
who bend the arc of history toward justice,
even when it feels invisible day by day…
Chaos and patience exist side by side —

desensitized, made normal,
the pablum of hate, of division,
of seeing the Other as evil…
A threat to our power, privilege,
to our way of life, our security,
fostering dissension,
to drive us all apart…

Goebbels would be proud,
the big lie repeated, a rhythm,
Orwell would be shaken,
a propaganda machine churning,
singing from the same pages
gaslighting an entire nation,
knowing what was coming,
armed to the teeth, weaponized
with lies, with manipulation…

the big lie of the moment,
repeated, repeated,
finding the biggest platform
to spew the bile of hate,

they need us more right now,

a nation, a people, caught for this moment,
in the space between administrations,
two tracks, at least, in this moment, a transition…
 
Competing interests, self-defense, escalation,
but also, words of peace, of movement, change,
an endless progression, a radical turn,
both paths lie ahead for the choosing…

Tuning in to different echo chambers,
our own truth, our own reality,
no common ground, no overlap,
just shouting from the barricades,
the ramparts, our own forts, our camps,
fed the same set of facts, incessantly,
but what if they are all lies…
 
Half-truths, half-measures,
Believing the lies, propaganda,
echo chambers louder, shouting,
no common ground, no overlap,
just groupthink, hand wringing, so sure
that we are right, but are we certain,
fed the same set of facts, incessantly.
but what if they are all lies…
 
Half-truths, half measures,
An endless feedback loop, repeating,
not checking our facts, our sources,
edited video clips debasing, appealing,
twisting what we see with our eyes,
lemmings to the cliff, the abyss,
which ones are drinking the Kool Aid,
fed the same set of facts, incessantly.
but what if they are all lies…

In no man’s land, in the middle

In no man’s land, in the middle,
in the space between administrations,
two tracks, at least, in this moment, transition…
 
Competing interests, self-defense, escalation,
but also, words of peace, of movement, change,
an endless progression, a radical turn,
both paths lie ahead for the choosing…
 
In no man’s land, in the middle,

War demands attention, the barrage continues,
arial attacks, terror from the sky, relentless,
drawing attention from any future, peace,
that may rise from the carnage, negotiation…

Unsafe – v2

Unsafe, at war, struggle in the body,
in the crucible, in the unknown, terror,
what might be, what is, chaos swirling,
a word salad, dicta, unprecedented,
unsafe, uncertain, unknown, fully,
not sure of safety, reality, our hope,
choosing one camp, one party,
one truth above all else…
 
Unsafe, in the maelstrom, the storm,
winds of change, of division, fissures,
of triumph, of rejection, of terrible strife,
too much unknown, uncertain, reality,
lost in the shouting match, destruction,
in our own echo chambers, distant,
from our families, our neighbors,
wearing our colors on our sleeves…

Unsafe, at war, in the body,

Half-truths, half-measures,

Siding with their evil – v2

He must never again know power,
awesome responsibility of office,
he must be barred from authority,
to stand in the Presidency…
 
He is siding with their evil,
spouting lies of our Enemy,
standing with the aggressor,
against this noble people,
their crimes against humanity…
 
He must never again know power,
awesome responsibility of office,
he must be barred from authority,
to stand in the Presidency…
 
He is either a pawn, or an agent,
of their lies, of their evil,
we cannot take a chance,
in the awesome decision before us,
he must be defeated for humanity…

The stain of innocent blood – v5

This poem is about the character Pontius Pilate in the novel, Master and Margarita,
by Mikhail Bulgakov, where Pilate is spending eternity, not in heaven or hell,
but trying to wash the innocent blood Jesus Christ from his hands.
This poem is transferring that same nightmarish judgment on Vladimir Putin
for the innocent blood of the people of Ukraine...

A mouthpiece of the aggressor – v2

A mouthpiece of the aggressor,
spewing their lies, their evil,
standing against our own interests,
becoming a friend to our enemy,
shouting their talking points…
 
Turning against our own interests,
as a people, as a nation, truly,
becoming an embodiment of evil,
speaking out loud their lies,
harming our own country…
 
A mouthpiece of the aggressor,
repeating their lies, their corruption,
a propagandist for their evil,
choosing to believe our enemy,
not standing with our own people…
