trapped in our sin
in the ruts of our rebellion
down in the pit, the pen,
in the muck and mire
the thick, sticky clay...
 
alone we are doomed
held in the grasp of Satan
pulled down into the pit
enticed by temptation
filling our ache, our emptiness,
that can only be filled by God...
 
in the muck and mire
like the forsaken Prodigal
God calls us to rise,
to repent, to turn,
to return to our home...
 
We are not alone,
God meets us, walks with us,
God loves us too much
to leave us forsaken
if we will confess our sin
He waits with open arms...
