We see him in his reactions,
as if unsure why he is in a room...
Він шукає вчорашній день
“He is looking for yesterday,”
stalking the halls of his bunker,
dipping into his cup of memory
a world that never was...
Believing his own lies
his self-deception,
No hope, no future,
only loss for this dictator,
This last tsar of Russia...
 
He is a specter, a ghost,
from another age, a time ended...
He is a prisoner of his own making
cut off from reality, the truth,
fed lies to assuage his ego
to encourage him onward
because his end will come fastest
if the war were to end
if other voices are allowed
to shatter the deception,
the lies he tells himself
in his hubris, his vanity...

“He is looking for yesterday,”

He is a caretaker, a placeholder
A living fossil, a nothing...
He has no hope, no future,
He has no vision in reality...
A Cold War anachronism,
A specter walking in our times...
 
He is not tomorrow,
hiding in his bunkers...
He is forever yesterday -
an indictment so telling
No place in our future -
Holding onto the past...
 
He clings to nostalgia, delusions,
a repeating mantra,
a past that is written in lies
in the myth of propaganda...
In a belief in an empire
That in truth never was...
 
He spews a false narrative
well-practiced deceptions,
Projection of his mania...
A history in mirrors -
Forever yesterday -
No hope for his future...

The world is shocked
by the carnage in this video
the savagery in this moment;
but this is repeated daily,
hourly, for many years...
 
Wanton murder, torment,
young men of Russia in Kherson,
staring at their flickering screens
guiding their FPV drones
to destroy civilian targets...
 
Precise action,
nothing random,
hunting humans –
No value in war,
just cruel, awful, death...
 
They call this “Human safari” -
a bland term truly;
but it describes cruelty,
death for money, for sport...
 
These Russian soldiers
are Dead Souls only
that Gogol wrote about;
They are bereft of life,
taking human life...
 
Cruel subhumans
(if only they were robots)
staring at their screens -
posting videos -
Their acts of genocide...

Their attacks are targeted,
extremely personal, direct...
Nothing is “indiscriminate”,
the strikes, the chaos are
no accident, just pure evil,
FPV drones hunting, stalking,
Human safaris, genocide -
Double-tap attacks on responders...
civilian targets, the elderly,
innocent children in the crosshairs,
on their flickering drone screens…
 
Ukraine is in the crosshairs
of the savagery of Russia,
The Conscience of Dead Souls,
of cruel naked aggression…
Kherson is in the grip,
of relentless bombardment,
its people tormented,
hiding from drones...
A frontline of terror
a land exposed to genocide,
with no end in sight…
 
Russia’s war crimes,
mounting daily, hourly,
crimes against humanity,
for more than a decade,
Russia’s war of attrition
where human life means nothing,
even their meat assaults,
destroying their own lives…
Cruelty at all costs…
They must be stopped,
They must be defeated…

The world shocked
by the carnage;
but this is repeated daily,
hourly, for many years...
 
Wanton murder
staring in their screens
guiding the FPV drones
to kill civilian targets...
 
Precise action
hunting humans –
No value in war,
just cruel death...
 
“Human safari”
a bland term truly,
but it describes cruelty,
death for sport...
 
These Russian soldiers
are Dead Souls only,
bereft of life...
 
Cruel subhumans
staring at screens -
posting videos -
their acts of genocide...

Bad news building, growing for Putin,
Iran has been hit, reprisals.
Syria has fallen, allies falling…
Ukraine developed ballistic missiles,
An ally shot dead in Moscow…
What does that portend for the future?
sand almost out of the hourglass...
 
How his demons must call him, shrieking,
in the darkness, taunting him beyond midnight,
Does he know them? Does he know their names?
Does it matter what he has been drinking?
finding him alone in the bunker, his cell,
nowhere to go, to escape from his night terrors…
 
His living nightmares, like the snares on Pilate,
haunted daily by their innocent blood,
as Bulgakov shared so well, tormented…
His ego captured, in fear, in distance,
keeping everyone away from him,
more than at arm’s length…
 
No, he doesn’t have to fear Ukraine, NATO,
an outside aggressor, a foreign enemy,...
The threat is much closer, truly,
within the walls of his gilded dungeon,
sometimes as close as breath,
a dagger pushed into his chest…
 
His days are numbered, his life borrowed,
their curses already spoken, a mist, a fog…
The coup will come, in an instant, suddenly,
when he least expects it, sooner,
rising from the Kremlin itself,
from its very walls…
 
Will he groan, “Et tu, Brute?”
When a friend turns the knife…
Will blood fall from his lip,
frozen in mid-air, juxtaposed
with his shocked amazement,
that they got so close…

May his words be prescient,
this historian, this freed hostage…
May his words be a beacon, a prophecy,
alive here in this moment, this now…
 
A lost war of aggression, collapse,
of this nation, his regime,
toppling of this madman, this evil…
May these words be revealed quickly…
May his prophecy spring to life…
 
So quickly could it happen,
without warning, in a few days…
The light of freedom shining brightly,
over Europe, many time zones…
