Father, forgive them – 2 – v3

For us to be faithful
to the command of Christ
to love as He loved us
to forgive as He forgave us

Father, forgive them
for they know not what they do
spoken by a man, Jesus
yes fully divine
but also fully human

God on the cross
the man on the tree
Father, forgive them
for they know not what they do

The same prayer for us
to forgive our neighbors
anyone who harms us
a sister, a brother

If we are to be faithful
disciples of Jesus
we must take up His prayer,
“Father, forgive them.”
