Father, forgive them – 2 – v5

For us to be faithful
to the command of Jesus
to our Master, to Christ,
to love as He loved us,
to forgive as He forgave us.

His prayer, “Father, forgive them
for they know not what they do”,
spoken by a man, Jesus,
yes He was fully divine;
but He was also fully human.

God hung on the tree
the man on the altar, the cross
His prayer for us,
“Father, forgive them
for they know not what they do”.

The same prayer for us
if we are to be faithful,
to forgive our neighbors
a sister, a brother,
anyone who would harm us.

If we are to be faithful
disciples of Jesus
we must take up His prayer,
“Father, forgive them
for they know not what they do.”
