Father, forgive them – 2 – v7

For us to be faithful
to the command of Jesus
to our Master, to Christ;
we are to love as He loved us,
to forgive as He forgave us.

His prayer, “Father, forgive them
for they know not what they do”,
spoken by a man, by Jesus.
Yes, He was fully divine;
but He was also fully human.

God hung on the tree,
the man on the altar, the cross;
His prayer for us,
“Father, forgive them
for they know not what they do”.

The same prayer for us
if we are to be faithful,
to forgive our neighbors
a sister, a brother,
anyone who would harm us.

If we are to be faithful
disciples of Jesus,
we must take up His prayer,
“Father, forgive them
for they know not what they do.”
