His Final Week – v3

From the palms, joy,
triumphantly entering His city;
the crowds shouting hosanna
welcoming the King.

But the joy did not last
those in authority threatened,
Power unwilling to yield
the dove, the lamb, a sacrifice.

The beauty of the Last Supper
a new Covenant revealed;
The treachery of the betrayer
their cries in the garden.

Before his capture and false trial
brought before the Governor;
The seat of foreign power
sent to the cross to die.

An offering for our sin
Yet as at the beginning;
Joy filled the morning
His resurrection on Easter.

Death, sin, no more in control
love triumphing, God’s plan fulfilled;
Giving us hope for the morning
when our work here is through.
