From the palms, that moment
the king acknowledged
as if they understood the
fulfillment
all prophecy revealed
triumphantly entering David’s
city
the crowds shouting hosanna
welcoming our king;
but the joy did not last
those in authority
threatened
power unwilling to yield
the dove, the lamb, a
sacrifice
The beauty of the last
supper
a new covenant revealed
the treachery of the
betrayer
Christ’s cries in the garden
before his capture and false
trial
brought before the governor
the seat of foreign power
sent to the cross to die
an offering for our sin
Yet as at the beginning
joy filled the morning
resurrection on Easter
death, sin, no more in
control
love triumphing, God’s plan
fulfilled
giving us hope for the
morning
when our work here is done
