You didn’t protect me

I was small and vulnerable,
I was hurt deeply, forever,
The bullies took much from me,
My autonomy, my joy…
 
Long before I was molested
Touched inappropriately in that field,
I felt abandoned, wide open,
At their mercy in the yard…
 
You didn’t protect me,
Not You, not my father,
Standing up to the bullies,
The Law of the playground…
 
Maybe this is the deep scar tissue
The covered pain that I carry
Ancient harms against me
Still caught in the sands of time…
