the dust, the ashes – v3

the dust, the ashes
all that remains
of our “Hosannas!”
our joy of that Sunday
welcoming our Savior;
the palms, the praises,
left to be gathered
burned to make ashes;
worn to remember
these days, the Passion,
Christ’s sacrifice, His death;
the atoning offering
descending to the dead
