the dust, the ashes

all that remains

of the palms

of our Hosannas

our joy of that Sunday

welcoming our Savior

left to be gathered

burned to make ashes

worn to remember

these days, Christ’s Passion,

His sacrifice, His death

the atoning offering

descending to the dead
