a vessel of their flame – v5

their bodies a vessel
a vessel of their flame
within their spirit
their lives in their hands
precious, each one,
each one a bottle, a jar,
as if made of blown glass
spinning, expanding
each one pulled from the fire

all of them alive
brightly burning
light deep within them
spirits young, open, ready
to be fed, to be nurtured
the fire within them
like lightning in a bottle
a breath, a spark
ready to burn brightly

the spark of spirits
their living essence
held in the vessel, their bodies
glowing bright within them
offered, shared, given to us
a sacred trust, solemn
giving to us to cherish
this part of their journey
in our time, this place
these moments of their lives
