a victory for them

the rules are there
state and federal laws
over us, watching
plans written, reviewed
placed in files and kept
but our job, our purpose
seeking a victory for them
for each one individually
to be productive members
of society, our communities
to stand as free, as secure
as they can possibly be
none of them dough
cookie cutter children
extruded through a mold
each separate, truly individuals
ours to help them, each of them
to reach their own potential
to fly on their own wings
