Before him, the leper, hurting
crying before the Messiah
on his knees, begging
tears down his face
in pain there, in shame
cast out of the congregation
denied community
not able to enter in
on his knees, in the dust
crying out for healing,
for Jesus’ healing touch
asking Christ to touch him
if he were to choose
Even more than the healing
of his sores, his illness
yearning for connection
for Jesus’ healing touch
that moment of saving
by the words of God
making him clean, whole
Christ choosing to heal him
that Jesus wants to heal us all
reaching out and touching
with his healing touch
bringing us back to him
into the arms of our God
