is this really what we have
to offer
a hollow shell, a lie
an empty promise of a future
when the dream has died
are we united as a people
pulling in the same
direction
on both sides of the divide
sorry, nothing more for you
our country all that, just a
dream,
should we lie, deceive them
should we tell them we are
special
that we are the only nation
free
as is that is all there is
to greatness
that our power defines us
should we tell them it will
be better
that better days are ahead
the cost of the fallacy, the
lie,
that America is on the rise
that we are on the cutting
edge
the leader worldwide
in every important measure
that we are caring for our
people
that greed is in check
and compassion is afoot
what should we tell them
the children, the younger
generation,
the dream a lie before them
America is in decline
yet we can change the future
if we can be united, together,
if we can dissolve our
differences
if we can stand for justice
for all
respect of our neighbors
if we can find our way through
the lines, the labels that
divide us
