here on Ash Wednesday – v2

here on Ash Wednesday
we gather in silence
in sackcloth, in ashes
remember the journey
that led to the cross.

here on Ash Wednesday
we share in the Passover
the meal Christ forever changed
with the new covenant
Christ’s sacrifice for us.

here on Ash Wednesday
we receive a mark on the outside
may it be a symbol, a truth
of our change on the inside
as we journey in Lent.
