how quickly they burn – 2 – v2

the sweet smoke encircling us

filling our lungs;

the palms of that Sunday

becoming  ash, dust.

how quickly they burn

the palms of Palm Sunday;

how quickly they turn to ashes

right before our eyes.

just like the mob of Palm Sunday

singing, shouting, “Hosanna”;

how quickly they turned

and shouted, “Crucify Him!”

on the morning of that Good Friday.
