These first words of Jesus,
such a natural response,
“remove this cup from me,”
but that wasn’t the last thing
that He said that night.
Christ chose submitting
giving His life over
to the will of God
His plan for His life
Christ gave his life over
becoming the vessel
holding our sin, our shame,
carrying our sin to the cross
“Yet not my will,”
these additional words by Christ
His prayer in the garden
that night in Gethsemane
not straying from the path
God had laid for Him
submitting His will,
“Thy will be done.
“Thy will be done,”
these words of Jesus
become the sacrifice
submitting His will
to the plan of the Father.
Giving His live over
holding nothing back
become the Lamb
drinking of the cup;
Christ, the Messiah,
the sacrifice, atoning,
healing the breach for His people
for all the sheep of His flock.
