to the left the Temple
the Temple Mount
to the right the Mount of Olives
their honored dead
waiting by the Kidron Valley
for the Final Judgment
prophesied by Joel
the culling of the people
God’s gathering home
sorrow on their journey
to the garden, Gethsemane,
after the upper room,
after Judas’ betrayal,
his running into the night.
walking toward the garden
along the Kidron Valley
the Temple to their left
journeying from the upper room
from the words of Christ
of betrayal, of sacrifice
remembering the ancient words
forever changed by Christ
to the right the graves of priests,
of prophets, of kings
all waiting for the Final Judgment
through this valley, this road
they journeyed to the garden, Gethsemane,
as sorrow walked with them
on that Thursday night.
