the sweetness of Sorrow

the sweetness of Sorrow
of the palms burning
breathing in the smoke
of the Holy Week

the chants of “Hosanna!”
become the cries of “Crucify!”
but the smoke sweet
because of the purpose

the sweetness of Sorrow
tasting the burning
the sacrifice complete
with the coming of Easter

the shouts of “Crucify”
with the resounding chorus
“Christ is alive;
my Savior lives!”
