the dust, the ashes – v4

the dust, the ashes

all that remains of the palms

our praises to God

all of our “Hosannas!”

our joy of that Sunday

welcoming our Savior

into David’s city;

the palms, the praises,

left to be gathered, broken,

burned to make ashes;

the ashes we wear to remember

these days, Christ’s Passion,

Christ’s sacrifice, His death;

the atoning offering

His descending to the dead.
