Setting up our neighbors
upon pedestals
those just like us;
seeking their praises
when they are but dust
Imperfect idols
not worthy of acceptance
our attention;
needing to focus
on the treasure that lasts
They, like us,
are not perfect;
imperfect vessels
prone to chip
to break, to rust
If we seek them
praises here on earth;
becoming empty
becoming broken
poured out of love

Seeking Praise of Men
Seeking praise of men
standing on this spot
bound to the dust
holding onto
treasures on earth
cleaving to that which rusts

Missing God’s Praise
In seeking worldly treasure
praise here on earth
missing God’s praises
life in new birth
Longing for our credit
pride in our own hands
seeking the praise of others
standing on sinking sand
