Judas watched

He alone of the disciples
to one who betrayed Him
walking with the guards, the others,
who had captured Christ
Judas watched in the crowd
the throng traveling with them
dragging the Messiah
in chains, in humiliation,
into David’s city, the City on the Hill,
down through the Kidron Valley
where there would be the Final Judgment
up into the Temple, the ancient seat of power
Judas watched all of this, the consequence of his betrayal
with the throng with Jesus in the depth of that long night.
