The palms we waved on Sunday
a year ago, dry now
the brittleness of our hope
Holy palms of Sunday
when we felt so much joy
becoming the ashes of Wednesday
when we remember our Savior’s pain
The brittleness of our hope
our eyes deceive us
the cost Christ paid
on the rugged cross
Our hopes dry like the palms
gathered for the burning
a reminder of the human judgment
on our blessed Savior
