the earth before God
spoke light
without form, void
a soup of nothingness
before the first day
an inky blackness
an emptiness without end
before the spark,
creation
before the voice of God
nothingness, void
an inky blackness
the earth without form
no beginning, no end
only the motion of God’s
Spirit
over the waters like a
bird
over an endless sea
a
bottomless emptiness
devoid of
dimensions
abject
nothingness
the earth
without end
a voice
would pierce the dark
God spoke
light
all coming
into view
day from the
night
