Bittersweet the smell, the smoke,
the palms burning
our joys, our shouts of
joy,
of, “Hosanna!”,
becoming flames, ashes;
our faithfulness tested
consumed in an instant
Jesus the Christ
the Messiah here with us
yet pawns in the drama
the bittersweet smell
Emmanuel, God,
descended to Hell
to redeem us from sin.
