Passing the basket
casual, familial
in the sanctuary
among friends
in the night
holding it reverently
waiting while the band plays
singing, humming along
at the back of the church
waiting for communal song
of thanks and praise
to bring it to Your table,
our altar Sunday night

filling the sanctuary,
as we join together
to give a little bit back
a little bit for the work
of the church, its missions
a bit back to the Creator
the Savior, the Redeemer
the Giver of life,
of the gifts we have
returning from whence it came
acknowledging the sovereignty
the grace, the nurturing
of our God
