bursting at the seams
useless, worthless
earthly possessions
all he had
When the Lord
called him home

A Visit at the Well
Taking her buckets,
going to gather water,
her daily needs
a visit at the well, epiphany
The Christ, before her
identifying himself
claiming that singular name
Offering living water,
her eternal needs
a well like no other
to quench her struggle, her pain

Through the Curtain of His Blood
Passing through, the valley, the veil lifted
entering in, the presence of God
through the curtain of his blood
a living screen, a shower, fountain
living waters washing us clean
entering in, before God
the stain of our sins washed away
by the willing, the humble sacrifice
making himself the lamb
the servant of God
paying once, for all times
the penalty, the price, of our sin

One Sacrifice
The priest, standing,
for one time, one sacrifice
approaching the cross, the altar
rising on its wooden frame
within the curtain, the veil
open before our eyes
entering in, one time
a perfect sacrifice to make
wiping our sin away
sitting forever, beside the father
waiting for the judgment day

Perfect Forever
In that moment of humble pain
the world gone black,
night upon the land
each of us, all who claim his name
made perfect forever
by his gift of wondrous love
Going as a servant
answering the father’s call
climbing the steps of Golgotha
rising on the cross for all
Our lives ever changed
for all eternity
joining our brother in paradise
if we but accept his offering

free to enter
with his act of agape love
unspeakable pain did he bear
knowing he had no sin in him
but yet he took its stain
through this act of submission
climbing upon the cross
he took our sin, our pain away
at what a terrible cost
But now, we stand in victory
because our savior died that day
and rose from the cold dark grave
We now, the members of his flock
are free to enter in
Because of his single sacrifice
all time and space is changed
no longer are we cast away
We may see the face of God

By the water of his blood
We are washed with pure water
living water of his blood
cleansing away the stain of sin
that we may enter in
Out of the darkness of this earth
the loss we suffer when we sin
Redeemed by the lamb
his one single sacrifice
brought home to our father again

With One Sacrifice
The world brought back from the brink
with one sacrifice all our sins healed
our brokenness, our distance
brought back to the Lord
A holy priest entering in
to hear the master’s call
A choice to choose the cup
his blood poured out for all
Like Isaac on the altar
this time he would be the lamb
shedding his life so we would live
fulfilling the prophecy of old
One covenant fulfilled
one promise made whole
Our lives redeemed on that day
and when we answer his call
For we are forgiven once and for all
but we must accept his offering
to choose to take the name of Christ
and be his hands and his feet
to continue serving the same mighty Lord
that we too may enter in

Offering us, not pain, suffering
abundance of life, by the creator
by our savior, into the world
bringing forth a change in our hearts
into this life, made of human flesh
walking the dusty roads
of the people of the book
the covenant people
living in the land
promised by the One
Tempted by the world
as each of us are
Choosing to humble himself
to walk not alone
living each moment
in communion with God
Abundance of life,
journeying beside us
in this trial of life
love, joy, hope abundantly
in this world and the next

The Opposite of Excellence
The opposite of excellence
when we offer less than our best
Worship, praise for the Lord
we should give no less
Our lives, our work here on earth
to spread his love like seeds
telling the world the good news
our savior has risen, he lives!

A timely word
A timely word
is our Lord
without beginning or end
His love offered to the world
that we may live again
Unearned agape love
given by God above
coming down to earth
in order to show his love
A visible proof of our king
walking on the way
offering his body and his blood
so we would live another day
Sin no longer over us lies
its sting no longer real
our future with the Lord
if we accept his love

Words of God
The holy word
words of God
lessons, teachings
wisdom for our lives
pouring out in our time of worship
in sermon and song and prayer
Offering ourselves to the Lord
falling on bended knee
Feeling his presence in his house
equipping us to serve
Going out into the world
a new energy
Walking with our brother
the Lord, doing his loving deed
Being the hands and feet of Christ
going to the ends of the earth
showing the face of love to the world
as the savior told us we should

World-Changing
Worship, our call
life-changing
world-changing
from your heart and mine
offering our all to the Lord
listening for his mighty call
The still small voice of God
crying from within our hearts
to go and be the Christ
to continue our savior’s work
To go into the world
the hands and feet of Christ
to spread the love of the Lord
to the ends of the earth

Messages from God
Listening, discerning
hearing the messages from God
for this time and place
the words of scripture
for our day, this age
the whole human race
The father’s love
endless and for all man
giving a means to return to him
if we but answer his call
The Christ who came into the world
who offered himself for us
These word of truth, of hope
proclaimed, that we may have rebirth
Telling the words of the gift
our savior coming again
to bring his sheep into the fold
a place in heaven instead

Transforming Messages
Words with power, with grace
a smile upon their face
transforming messages from the Lord
echoing in this holy place
Spreading, moving, in the world
into each beating heart
the love of Christ
offering us, a way to come back home
His gift, his sacrifice
upon the rugged cross
an act beyond all else
a cup of bitterness
Life eternal, offered to each one
if we but turn from the earth
following our brother in this life
until we have heavenly birth

Transforming Us
Ever changing, transforming us
within our hearts and mind
the message of the Lord
sharing from your heart to mine
Worship, more than a day a week
into my life to stay
changing the way I go about
my work, my play,
each and every day
Living with Christ close at hand
walking next to me
praise and honor to the king
may I always bring
Out into the world I walk
on this journey home
sharing my way with the world
a message of love for all

Hearing Christ
In the offering, the words shared that day
hearing Christ speak to me
the stories of our king
and how he walked on the earth
Speaking from the words of love
the scripture left for us
a message of hope for the world
to give us a measure of peace
his kingdom yet to come
a home with our Lord
who gave his life for us
his grace more than enough
our lives numbered from the start
returning to the Lord
his love within our hearts

Touching God
In this time, this place
this holy space
touching God with our hearts
rising from within
His spirit calling us
in the words and song
Hearing the love of God
going where we are called
Our lives, our hearts transformed
from deep within, different
from the lessons of the Lord
our worship calling to him
Touching God in this place
feeling his presence here
prayers lifted to our king
an offering to bring

Out of Our Pews
Standing as they preach
empowered to do your work
rising out of our pews
his hands and feet to use
Feeling the spirit
descending on each one
the presence of the Lord
wrapping around our lives
entering into us
Praises raised to the Lord
each heart brought alive
a congregation doing your will
to offer our loving care
to serve our fellow man
to see Christ in our neighbor’s face
to feed and clothe the poor

Out onto the Waters
Giving me the faith
out of my pew, my comfort
out onto the waters
to go where the master calls
to be the hands and feet of Christ
to stand for justice for all
Seeing my fellow man
and heeding his call to help
doing the work of Christ
out into this troubled world
to the wilderness, the desert places
to spread the love of the Lord
in this time and space

Excellence
In all things, excellence
striving to live our lives
worthy before the Lord
Not a means of earning
our key to heaven’s door
a loving response
to all that the creator gave
the grace he heaps on me
each day of this mortal coil
Coming into his temple
or on my knees in my room
spending time in scripture
opening my heart to my king
yearning to walk more closely
to be at my savior’s side
listening for his message
discerning my master’s call

Our Very Best
Nothing left out
our very best for the Lord
giving, our hearts open wide
his message of love to share
The spirit speaking to our souls
from deep within our lives
echoes of the lessons of the Lord
in every word and deed
Living in worship
each day of our lives
no walls, no day set apart
holy ground wherever we are led
his love, our cross, to give

My Best
Offering my best
present in worship
joining in the centering
in song, in prayer
listening, yearning
to hear my message for me
going where the master leads
doing the loving deed
Following the call of the shepherd
my brother waiting for me
his yoke upon me
walking closer to thee
Balancing my steps
beside my brother, my king
giving my best, my all
serving my fellow man

Seeing Christ
Seeing Christ
in their faces,
in the words they lovingly share
stories of our saving Lord
and his time upon this earth
His lessons for the world
the father’s loving word
a message for each beating heart
the yoke, the cross to share
our way made easier
like the saints before us
we must simply believe

Lessons
Lessons in the words of old
the prophesies fulfilled
the stories of the Lord
and what he told them then
Lessons for our daily lives
from the saints before us
speaking to our present age
that we too may be saved
Leaving the words behind
the things that rust and fade away
Seeking our eternal home
all are welcomed in
Going out into the world
to bring the master’s love
sharing the story of our king
a harvest of souls to win

My Days Different
After worship, richly blessed
my days different
my life renewed
called to my closet
to spend time with the Lord
to share the word I am given
verses for the world
Sharing the message
the word on my lips
my fingers moving to the music
the dance in the melody
of the Lord, his love
on my fingertips
Writing words of hope
in this time of strife
his yoke, his cross, a gift
language, words to give
out into the world
of life, and love, and grace

Calling Disciples
Calling disciples
up out of the pews
touching our hearts and minds
to go and do the work
to lend a helping hand
Speaking to our hearts
the master’s work to do
to serve our neighbors in need
to love our fellow man
To offer the hope of Christ
the washing of sin away
the joy of walking with the Lord
the promise of a bright new day

Touching the Word
Flowing, like a living stream
touching the word
the grace of God
the power of the word
transforming our lives
Entering in, to hear the master’s voice
praying to feel his presence
aware he is in this place
Calling on the saints
to touch our hearts and minds
the lessons of the past
our place and in this time
Words of power, of authority
passed down to this age
Touching the word,
the stirrings of God
for us on this blessed day

Empowering Me
The words, the lessons
the message of scripture
the pastor’s voice
our prayers, our singing
a community in worship
Empowering me, filling me
changing my willing heart
open to the message of the king

Going as the spirit moves

Good Enough
Our best, all we are
offered up to the Lord
our worship worthy

Nothing left on the shelf

offered up to the Lord
our worship worthy
when our best is what we give
Nothing left on the shelf
our hearts before the king
our lives given to the Lord

The Words of Christ
So much, our worship now
the words of Christ
his teachings, his healings
his lessons for the first disciples
our clarion call
Out of our fears, our comfort
testing our faith
as he did the scribes, the Pharisees
this land of wealth, of greed
our possessions ruling our lives
His call to leave and follow me
From the words, the prayers
from deep within our hearts
Christ trying to help us choose
the way of the cross
The world, the illusion of life
in this modern age
losing sight of the one true light
our savior, our brother, our king
Cleave to the Lord,
answer the shepherd’s call
turn from the ways of the earth
and live our new birth

Bringing Christ (into view)
The words of scripture
the lessons of the sermon
joy of the hymns
the reverence of the prayers
all bringing Christ, his presence
his love, his sacrifice
into view, in ways
we can understand
the majesty of our Lord
our savior, our king
shared with us in
moments of worship
so we may enter in
Out of our world
into the Lord
sharing with our neighbors,
our fellow man
taking up the cross, the yoke
follow our shepherd home

Face to Face
Face to face with God
as I close my eyes
listening to the singing hearts
as we enter in to prayer
Our lives joined in praise
to worship before the Lord
offering ourselves to God
and open to his loving call
Joining in the song
the work of Christ here and now
Going in his caring name
his love to share
Out into the world
to be his hands and feet
to bring the love of God to man
to worship at his feet
Sing to the Lord
enter in
Joy upon my heart
welcome there

With Honesty
Sharing, with honesty
unvarnished, the words from God
sometimes uncomfortable,
a mirror to our face
Sometimes joyous
a smile upon our hearts
Worship transforming
changing our day to day
with power, with honesty
only in that way
Christ in his ministry
spoke truth to the ones in power
and showed the simple folks
he was the way to life
His humble service
to his fellow man
a model of worship of life
that leads to our heavenly home
Trusting that the words will come
open to the master’s call
speaking to our fellow man
what the spirit prints upon our hearts
a path made more straight
Moving on day by day
on to a higher plane
seeking the Lord
in all we do and say

Poetry Where You Live.
Free
Free, to tell the truth
the discerned word,
the message from God
Sharing freely, without reservation
sharing with the congregation
the words they need to hear
The power, the authority
coming from God
a vessel worthy,
when given to the Lord
Speaking from their hearts
to yours and mine
giving of the king
his grace to be revealed
Our hearts opened
in the story of the son
Doing what the master willed
so that we may come alive
Out of the shadows
into the light of God’s love

Alive in Christ
The church
the community
one body
walking with the shepherd
dying in him
into the depths
facing our cross, our sin
into the depths
Alive in Christ
rising with him
from the pit, the grave
made clean
filled with wonder, with awe
the spirit moving us
from our inertia,
our comfort, complacency
acts of power, signs
to perform, out into the world
alive once more in Christ
doing the master’s will

Unbridled Joy
Complete abandon
unbridled joy
the collie running
as fast as its legs would go
oblivious to the world around
people going about their day
Across the frost/leaf-covered field
long after its last mowing
panting breath in its wake,
its master walking slowly
leash dangling empty at her side
An early-fall-morning run
at break-neck speed
unbridled joy in the dog’s heart;
Lawn still in shadows
no one else watching
its movements this day

A Living Church
Viewing this scripture,
the rising of our faith
from that one upper room
to the ends of the earth
With the words used, the tasks, the work
the disciplines used, showing their faith
in their covenant with God
His example lived out
being Christ’s messengers
starting in that place
A living church, in the other words,
adjectives, adverbs, the motion
with joy, with wonder, and in awe
hearts alive, burning with the fire
Spirit-filled, moments of joy
pouring out, from their hearts
bursting, burgeoning
the church living, devoted
one community, one body
moving together
out into the world

A Living Way
In Christ, a new,
a living way,
his light guiding us
the priest offering
once and for all time
cleansing us, living waters
pouring over, clean
Living, in community
persevering in our faith
on the way, entering in
through the love of God
demonstrated by the Christ
a model, for our witness
our steps in his footprints
a way, living
into the courts of God

Entering In
Through Christ, entering in
the holy of holies
into the very presence of God
walking into the courts
seeking the creator
through the son, the way
through our death in him
redeemed, born anew
entering in
into the throne room,
the king on his throne
entering in

Boundless Grace, Joy
Grace, joy, love
boundless, abundant
gifts for our hearts, our spirits
from the creator
To be shared, generously
to one another, reflecting
God’s love for us
the revealing, in the son
God who walked, who walks
with us, eternally
on our earthly journey
leading us home

God Made Us to Laugh
God, in his wisdom
a gift of joy, humor
God made us to laugh
a life abundant
joy, in our hearts
revealing, the lilt of our laughter
easing our minds
our spirits renewed
as we breathe, as we cry
so too, we laugh
as the creator intends
joy in our hearts

To Be Humbled
The Spirit, God eternal
to be humbled, the clay of earth
taking on the form of man
the human God, Christ
born to live among us
to walk, tempted as we are
A holy life, trusting in God
living the commands of the law
able to serve, to heal
to bring the love of God
to the whole world
through the choice
to follow the master’s will
even to death on the cross
rising, returning
to the court of God
