We are controlled by the snake,
overcome by an amygdala hijack…
Our snake brains rise, react,
an instinctive response, primitive,
unconsciously acting, primal,
no rational thought, no control,
not a reasoned course of action…
 
We pick up our battle ax,
Forgetting to put on our armor,
not scanning for danger, aware of the lies,
but rushing headlong into the storm,
even when the attack is imaginary,
a fiction of the Devil, fighting
even when the battle is won…
 
We see injustice, sins against us,
perception becomes our reality,
reputational harms, injury,
attacks of the bullies, anger,
failing to see nuance,
another hill to die on
another storm to fight…

an amygdala hijack,

flying into each storm – v2 #poetry #God #Christ #Spirit #love #grace #trust #faith #prayer #anger

reflexively acting, headlong,
flying off the handle,
flying into each battle
unproductive, exhausted
at my wits’ end…
not trusting, not waiting,
not at peace within God’s
assurance, His protection
His hand in each storm…
believing I am in charge
that I am the one in control…
 
not thinking, not conscious,
a visceral reaction, instinctive,
tension in my spirit, of fight or flight,
jumping in without a plan…
believing I must fix whatever it is…
not trusting, not believing
in the sovereignty of God…
angry at each injustice
controlled by emotion
no faith, not believing fully
in the goodness of God…

Before I was born, before Creation,
You know me completely,
every thought, every action,
every second of my life,
even those I have forgotten
every butterfly effect
the ripples of my living…
Nothing is hidden from You,
my Savior, my Creator,
my Guide, my God…
 
Help me, Lord, today, to trust,
to be honest, transparent,
Lead me to lay down my life,
to be open, to be courageous,
to tear the veil of my secrets,
even the sins I have forgotten…
Reveal them unto me, oh God,
so I may find healing,
that I may heal the damage,
I have caused the hurt…
Help me to be Your witness.

I am in despair…
 
Lord, come quickly to save me

any whiff of Satan,
cleanse me fully
of all my wickedness…
 
refill me, Lord,
with You only,
enter in Spirit,

Hold fast to your faith,
your trust in Christ Jesus…
 
God wants to heal you,
to rescue, to save you,
Listen to God’s word,
His whisper to your heart…
 
The Word, the Spirit,
offers us assurance,
God will lead you
through every storm…
 
Hold fast to your faith,
your hope in Christ Jesus,
Take the next right step
for God wants to heal you…

the next right #step – v3 #poetry #God #Christ #Spirit #love #grace #trust #faith #prayer

Lord, I am stuck, I am frozen,
stuck in quicksand, in cement…
help me move forward, Lord,
to listen to Your whisper, to hear Your voice,
to block out the noise, the demons,
my inner voice, my struggles, my pain…
Lord, help me to take the next right step…
 
Lord, I overthink, I fear, but
I am not asking for a detailed roadmap,
every step from beginning to end,
carved into stone, laid out perfectly…
I want, I long, I seek, I trust in Your plan,
Your calling, Your purpose,
for each next right step…
 
Lord, I know You love me,
that You have always been with me…
Help me to let go of control, Lord,
to have peace in my spirit, my body,
to cleave to Your still small voice,
not demanding answers, promises,
but taking that next right step…
 
Lord, I trust in Your goodness,
that You will be with me,
that You will protect me…
Lead me, guide me, safely,
I submit more fully, by faith,
so that I may bring You glory,
as I walk each next right step…

God had a plan
to make good of evil
to redeem the whole world
through their acts of betrayal…
 
God places us
in trying situations
to teach, to train us,
to live into our purpose…
 
God loves us
while others wish us evil…
God will use their evil
for our good…
 
God is with us
on this earthly journey…
God redeems us
from our pit…
 
God calls us
to our divine purpose…
We must trust Him
in all things…

you only see the surface
my words, my actions,
my emotions running rampant,
pain I expose, unguarded,
when I am transparent…
 
but deep down within me,
within each of us there is struggle,
harm unaddressed, hidden,
ancient pain we hold onto,
that we do not release to God…
 
expose my heart,
my innermost being,
peel each layer upon layer…
Lord, make me transparent
that I may heal…
