In ashes, in sackcloth – v2

I am laid low, prostrate,
laying in ashes, in sackcloth,
aware of my sin, my shame,
I am in despair, aching,
I need Your love, oh God
preserve my life, oh Father,
according to Your word…
 
Come close to me, Lord,
walk beside me, I pray,
for I am hurting, I am broken,
I long to feel You with me,
I long sense Your presence,
beside me as close as breath,
to know You answer my prayers…

An amoral specter,

not just words of scripture,
spoken by God to Cain,
words of accusation, power,
when he took life in his hands…
 
“what have you done”,
words that echo, that sting,
when we think of the hurt we cause,
against God, against man…
 
we too are selfish, jealous,
like Cain we sin, we stray,
we get angry with one another,
we walk, we run away…
 
God could condemn us,
each one of us born on earth,
but God made a way to redeem us,
to give us eternal life…

Satan stalks me,
He longs to destroy me,
He tempts me to turn,
to separate me from God…
 
Satan’s presence is with me,
I feel Him moving,
In the world, against me,
to separate me from God…
 
Satan attacks me,
His minions know me
in the spiritual realm,
to separate me from God…

He seeks to destroy me,
the Devil fights to turn me,

walking in the dust
cast out of the Garden
all of humanity from that moment
cursed by their sin…
 
no longer living in harmony,
abiding with our Creator,
knowledge of evil remaining,
baked into our DNA…
 
their choices in the Garden,
to eat, to be disobedient,
a curse upon all generations,
our separation from God…
 
a manifestation of free will,
a moment of extreme anguish,
a curse upon all of us,
forever, for all time…

welling up, this bile, this poison,
from deep within us,
our nature, our DNA…
 
hiding beneath reason,
below conscious thought,
our flesh, our primordial self,
leads us away from God…
 
but God can redeem us,
He will gather us in,
like a lost sheep He pursues us,
God will bring us home…

the cries of his blood

the cries of his blood
his murdered brother Abel,
crying out to God,
in pain, for justice
reaching the heart of God…
 
sin, murder, jealousy,
for a crime he committed,
because he was selfish,
because he had fallen short,
not fully honoring God…
 
oh, what pain in that moment,
hearing the words of God,
the mirror of truth before him,
his sin given voice,
“Oh, what have you done?”…

What have you done

Can you imagine, really,
this moment of accusation, fully,
the blood of his brother upon him,
hearing the judgement of God…
 
“What have you done?,
the voice of your brother’s blood
is crying to me from the ground”,
the greatest comeuppance of all time…
 
Words like a dagger, cutting,
breaking the stillness, in sorrow,
sin of murder upon him,
almost worse than the wrath…
 
“What have you done?”, how awful,
the booming voice of condemnation,
his selfishness, his sin repugnant,
spoken the from lips of God…

Not coincidence, not by random chance,
divine appointments, these brothers,
others to walk with me, to hear me,
to walk this stretch of the road…
 
We are not meant to be loners,
walking alone in this life,
You bring others beside us,
to share our burdens, to be light…
 
Oh, how we need each other,
to make good choices, to do right,
leaning into their good counsel,
in walking this stretch of the road…

God, You pursue me

Lord, I feel You, I hear You,
I feel Your breath, Your touch,
God, You pursue me, You always have,
every moment of my life…
 
I have denied You, I have shunned You,
I have run away, defiant,
turning my back on You,
my Creator, my Savior, my God…
 
But You have been relentless,
You have always been present,
You have not forsaken me,
all the days of my life…
 
Lord, I am still struggling, tired,
I am still broken, afraid,
but You are life the father of the Prodigal,
You run to meet me on this road…

standing aghast, our mouths agape,
in the field before Jesus
hearing His words of authority
His power over Sabbath,
over soul rest…
 
how life would have been different…
if only they had believed Him
their Messiah before them,
the Son of God, of Man,
offering them salvation,
true Sabbath rest…

Spending currency he doesn’t own – v2

A legacy we will all regret,
the full faith and credit,
the good name of America,
that which cannot be recovered,
once it is lost, trampled, squandered,
once it has been dragged through the mud…
 
Spending currency he doesn’t own,
he is merely a caretaker, a fiduciary, a steward,
a guardian of a sacred trust he is busy destroying,
squandering the good name of America, sorrow,
before our enemies, our allies, nation-states,
dragging the idea of America through the mud…
 
Given a mandate for prosperity, to make us great again,
to draw us inward, stronger, but attacking, harming,
siding with our sworn enemy, undercutting our neighbors,
our allies, our brothers in the fight, in the crucible,
of war, of the right, of justice, of freedom, America,
dragging a legacy of division, bleeding in the mud…

merely a caretaker, a fiduciary, a steward,
a guardian of a sacred trust he is busy destroying,
squandering the good name of America,
before our enemies, our allies, the nations,
dragging the idea of America through the mud…
 
Given a mandate for prosperity,
to draw us inward, stronger, but attacking,
siding with our sworn enemy, undercutting our neighbors,
our allies, our brothers in the fight, in the crucible,
of war, of the right, of justice, of freedom, America,
dragging a legacy of division, bleeding in the mud…

He spoke power

Christ stood before them,
honoring his disciples,
stepping in to defend them,
against the Law, the Pharisees…
 
Christ spoke power,
His authority, His own name,
claiming the mantle of eternity,
that He was the Son of Man…
 
They were shocked, amazed,
frozen in that moment,
nothing further is said
as Christ walked away…
