Standing Against the Devil

On the plain of the desert
after coming from the waters
baptized for a purpose
beginning his work

Standing against the devil
hungry and alone
steeled by the word of God
the love he knew so well

Each of us, in the pages
in the words of God revealed
able to stand against temptation
in all its earthly forms

Like Christ, our savior,
able to turn from the world
relying on the word of God
in all our daily struggles, choices
on this mortal coil
