Watching from a Distance

His followers, the faithful
though too timid to speak
watching from a distance
a vigil at the cross
while Christ died for our sins
fulfilling God’s plan for him

All of us, the faithful
no matter the time or place
pausing, present on this day
a vigil at the cross
our watching from a distance
knowing Christ died for us
sharing the good news
