suffering for those six hours

the day already long enough
starting with the betrayal
the Sanhedrin judging Jesus
taking Him to Pilate
hearing her own people
shouting, “Crucify Him!”
angry words in Jerusalem
the home of her ancestor David
shocked by the turn
from their words on Palm Sunday

suffering for those six hours
at the feet of Jesus
at the foot of the cross
as His lifeblood poured out
helpless to stop it
wanting to cry out
but caught in the prophecy
God’s plan being worked out
Her son the sacrifice
to free all His people
