He was ritually washing
an art to the cleansing
but not as effective
to be seen, witnesses,
washing his hands
absolving himself of the actions
before the people, the leaders
before the Son of Man
Telling them, in the ritual,
as if to say, “I am not guilty”,
in washing his hands, saying,
“His blood is on your hands;
I have been washed, I am clean,
the stain is not on me”;
yet the stain of blood is still there
for all eternity
