disowning His Lord and Master
thrice before the cock crowed.

knowing in ugly detail
the pain He was to face.

Christ must have known
the number of lashes
the pain of the spike,
the thorns in His brow.
In His answer to Peter
the Passion playing out
just as it was written
just as it was prophesied
from the beginning of time.
