Under the shadow of the birds

Overtaken by them
a menace growing
driving southward through the city
focused on the traffic
many miles to go.
 
A presence moving quickly
stalking all of us moving
lost in our inner thoughts.
 
Overtaken by them
sprinting from behind us
under the shadow of the birds
giant raptors looming, coming,
parting, climbing skyward.
