follow our own path

It is true we each are called
a specific plan of God
to walk in the path
laid out for us
but that is very different
than to follow our own path
one is obedient
one against the will of God

to lead the people back to God

The prophets, teachers
not nearly enough
God sent Jesus
to lead the people back to God
to sharing God’s love
the way to paradise
humble, a servant
the lamb upon the cross

We wander from God
from his ways
thinking we know the path
the journey of our days
as if we are omniscient
all powerful, creator
wanting to be in control
when it is but an illusion

Head strong, independent
bucking at restrictions
following our own rules
a path to damnation
not heeding God’s call
his path for our lives
head strong, stubborn
going our own way
