Speaking the pain of Judas

anguish in his spirit

loss washing over him

spitting out his condemnation

and them washing it on himself

speaking to the Father

about what he had done to the Son

knowing he had killed him

sent him to the cross

Speaking the pain of Judas

a dialogue with God

after the betrayal

before the blessed morn’

knowing only the martyrdom

the pain, the death of Jesus

loss in the darkness

choosing to kill himself

unable to go on

Feeling the pain of Judas

descending into his feelings

the conflict in his mind

after the arrest, the beating

the trial of the Christ

feeling the pain of Judas

as if he was talking to God

choosing to take his own life

unable to accept God’s grace

to be forgiven, for what he had done

worship me – 2 – v2

“worship me”,

cooed the devil

trying to entice Jesus

to change him from his path

in his hunger, in his thirst

in his time in the desert

“worship me,

and all you see will be yours

all the kingdoms of the earth

these and so much more

just fall and worship me

as your master and lord”

But Christ was stronger

anchored in scripture

prepared for the challenge

for the tempter in the desert

Christ responded boldly

faithful to God;

no turning, no victory

for the prince of the earth

calling out to Jesus

in his suffering, his hunger

seeking to turn his attention

from his path, his mission

calling out to Jesus

the devil, the tempter,

the siren of the world

the prince of the earth

seeking to ensnare him

to trap the Prince of Peace

but he was unsuccessful

his resolve to fervent     

his love of the word

imprinted on his heart

for each challenge

a passage of holy scripture

able to stand against the storm

the calling of the devil

to stray from his path

seeking to tempt Jesus

to turn him from his path

sin could not hold him

scripture to guide him

Christ answered with power

staying on his path

do we offer to Jesus

to the Spirit which guides us

prince of the earth

the tempter, the Devil calling

seeking to ensnare Jesus

the prince of the earth offering

the kingdoms of dust

Christ responding boldly

with words of ancient scripture

discounting the gifts offered

standing on the word

the prince of earth empty

bereft of his power

with Christ he was a failure

unable to change his path
