Joy in the birdsong – v3

Joy in the birdsong,
cardinals, blue jays,
mockingbirds in the trees,
wrens on the ground…
 
Joy in hearing them once again,
cooing of the mourning doves,
birdsong surrounding me
as I venture outside…
 
Joy in the birdsong,
music of creation, of life,
sensing God’s presence,
in that song, that melody…

Joy in the birdsong,

Her name wasn’t Annie – v2

Her name wasn’t Annie,
and I am certainly not Helen,
but she reopened a world,
that was silent, dormant…
 
She reawakened a part of me
that had gone missing,
I can hear myself typing
these keys as I write…
 
I cannot adequately describe,
the wonder of unwrapping a mint,
the sound of cellophane
turned in my hands…
 
Turning down the volume,
of my phone, my computer,
hearing the brushing
of the hairs on my head…
