a land of dreams

birthed by a prayer

a hope, a yearning

for freedom, for life

for liberty for all

an end to strife

a land of dreams

of hopes, of aspirations

seeking to raise up

our lives, our neighbors

that all would know plenty

and none would know want

a land of dreams

a journey, still, forward

striving to fully achieve

our nation’s calling

to fully live out

our hopes, our creed.

changing our nation’s history

the pundits asked each other

would his words have an impact

would anything change

through the words he spoke

there was power in his words

humble words of service

words of love, compassion

of God’s Golden Rule

within a day, less really,

a momentous decision

changing our nation’s history

the Speaker stepping down

He was willing to sacrifice

for the Congress, for our nation

changing his plans this morning

for the common good.
