fresh palms

fresh palms for the celebration
cut in harvest
fresh palms for the King
His triumphal entrance
fresh palms to wave
to shouts of “Hosanna!”
fresh palms in our hands
for the coming of Jesus!

the palms of our hands

the palms in our hands
remembering the Messiah
entering Jerusalem
to shouts of “Hosanna!”

the palms in our hands
become the ashes
marking the journey
of forty days.

the palms of our hands
in prayer, in worship
remembering the journey
of Christ’s love.

the palms of our hands
lifted for service
continuing Christ’s work
to the end of the age.

only a donkey

only a donkey
not a grand procession
no war-horse
no royal trappings

only a donkey
for the humble Savior
fulfilling His purpose
entering Jerusalem.

The Lord had come

the Lord was entering
David’s city
needing the donkey
to fulfill prophecy
the Lord had come
to celebrate the Passover
to become the Lamb
to save His people.

Blessed is each one

Blessed is each one
with a salvation story;
all who have entered the pit
and have been redeemed.

Blessed is each one
who comes in God’s name;
proclaiming the Victory
that our God saves!

into sorrow with gladness

entering this week
into sorrow with gladness
sure of the resurrection
our salvation in Christ

each day made new
by the hand of the Creator
we are to rejoice
and to remain faithful

God is eternal
His mercies unending
we go forward
into sorrow with gladness

we know the victory
the morning of Easter
we walk these steps
in the footsteps of Jesus.

undergirding

the ancient words of scripture
of God’s promise
God’s love enduring
forever, Amen.
God is with us
walking on the journey
no matter the darkness
the depths of our sorrow
God’s love endures
forever, Amen.
